I recommend that everyone downloads the 'Am I Hungry?' Free Download from my website sofiabothwell.co.uk . It is your accurate starting point. Every time you think about food or eating you must ask yourself 'Am I hungry?' This way  you can determine whether your hunger is genuine physical hunger or a craving to eat when full. This is essential and valuable information for with this information you can start on your journey to true and lasting slimness. If you are physically full yet crave to eat more you must ask yourself 'What feeling is this?' Holistic Healing the Ultimate Answer

Holistic Healing really is the ultimate answer to so many many issues that trouble the world today and  it is no surprise that there has be a resurgence of the holistic field of medicine, education, farming etc.  People intuitively know what is healthy and what is not. People intuitively know also when something is 'off' in their habits, their health, their life and they seek alternative ways of coping or healing that aspect of their life. My interest in psychology and healing has been longstanding and specifically in the healing of eating disorders and other addictions. The fundamental issue that when one embarks on the healing journey one has to  pinpoint and heal ones traumas. Now, actually this is so interesting, that many people will dismiss having ever suffered from major trauma, or the importance of that trauma, sometimes the trauma is forgotten. It is only when one gives up one's bad habits or addictions that the memory of the trauma surfaces. Now if you do ...

Is Addiction the Only Problem?

Addiction is a great big diversion from the underlying story that causes the addiction. What is the story that lies beneath your cravings? Do you know? Are you aware of the threads of instances, the colouring of emotions and the landscape of what was the half remembered past? Maybe you know what was in your past, those specific traumas that led you so gaily and maybe not no gaily down the road of addiction. The road that was to bring you the highs and lows of any journey taken to be sure, but hollow were those instances of 'high' and oh so real those instances of 'low'. All to be attributed to an aspect of the addiction.  'It was the drink talking.' So much can be excused by the object of addiction.  'Alcohol gives me confidence.' So much power can be given to the object of addiction. 'I just had to have that drink.' It becomes the crutch, the support, the friend you never had. And that is just it, that huge emotional gap of what you never had. ...

Giving up addiction

To give up an addiction is no small task. It is a learned coping mechanism that was unconsciously learned in order to handle some long forgotten trauma.  It is a learned habit, a habit that evolved in your life and in your lifestyle. To pinpoint and resolve the original issue sends ripples out that change you, your life and your lifestyle.   You will no longer be eating when full or indulging in any addiction when you pinpoint and resolve that emotional stuff that underlie your compulsion to eat when full or indulge in any other addiction.  You will no longer be reaching for the cigarette, or wine, or anti-depressant when you have healed that which caused you to crave those things in the first place.  You can't help but think we must have all made a lot of mistakes and been the victim of the mistakes of others in order for so many people to be so wounded that practically everyone is addicted to something.  'The world is a mess,' you may say. 'Everyone...

Food - it's various roles

Food is taken care of by eating when hungry and stopping when full - end of! Our weight is taken care of by eating when hungry and stopping when full.  Food is a source of nourishment. Now how come food got mixed up with emotions?  Food when full suppresses emotion. The minute you eat when full you have crossed the line from food being nourishment to food being linked with emotion. Linked in a dysfunctional way. Linked in a way that makes it an addiction.   Addiction is any activity that suppresses your emotions. You are angry - you eat when full. You have just had a difficult day - you eat when full. You are stressed - you eat when full. You are bored - you eat when full. Eating when full has become your way of coping with your unresolved emotional stuff.  So inherent in becoming and staying slim and free from all  addiction is the resolving of our emotional stuff.  My workshops, self-help support groups and one to one sessions over the years have foc...
