Symbolic Meanings
When we realise that many things have symbolic meaning for us, we can start to unravel what the deeper meaning is, and also gain clarity as to what it is that is going on as regards those things that have symbolic meaning for us.
For example, a certain car can mean status. It says to all who see it - I've made it. Whether you have or not is the deeper issue and what 'made it' constitutes for you also is the deeper issue. You may be able to afford a fancy car but how are your relationships with your children and spouse? Have you 'made it' there?
There is layer upon layer of meaning to things and most folk don't want to go there, unless they have an interest in psychology or positive thinking and the like. However people are often forced to go there and learn the skill of such self-reflection simply out of necessity. After all we may not want to take the time and effort to learn how to cook but we realise in the long run it is a life skill that will become automatic and greatly enhance our lives and health in so many ways. Self-reflection is like this if you are not naturally drawn to it. A skill of the utmost importance to take the time to develop to at least the most basic degree. Why? Because it will keep you out of addiction for a start. It may cut your wine bill in half and free you from the compulsion to eat when full. Finally you will be able to shed those excess pounds that have crept on year after year that seem impossible to move. Impossible without self-reflection, for it is the self -reflection and deeper meanings unravelled and clarified that help you know yourself and what you want and how to get it.
You may think you want that unreachable big fancy house but when you look a little deeper you may only want safety and a sense of security for yourself and your children. And you may realise that you can have that in a smaller affordable house in a safer area for example. Healing the emotional wounding that has left you feeling 'unsafe' as an adult can help too. What that big house symbolised was the craving for healing, safety and security and that can be achieved with or without a big house.
Deeper and deeper we delve into layer upon layer of subconscious workings in the mind and emotional nature to clarify, heal and resolve, so real headway can be made in our lives and we realise that most of what the outer material trappings promise are just shadow reflections of the real truth of what we can indeed achieve in terms of meeting our real life needs in accessible affordable ways. The outer trappings may or may not be in our lives but remember they are not called trappings for nothing. Taking the route of inner freedom through self-reflection is what I recommend. A scenic and adventurous route to be sure.
