The Great Spiritual Masters

There once was a young man who went to the spiritual Master asking the Master for help with his anger.

''Where is your anger?'' Asked the Master. ''Show it to me.''

''I can't show you my anger now. I don't feel angry now,'' replied the young man.

This highlights the transient nature of emotion, as does the Buddhist saying ''Feelings are like clouds in the sky - they pass.''

I thought my own interest in Eastern Spirituality was separate from my work (both on myself and with others) around eating disorder recovery and emotional healing, but lately I've been considering that anyone who starts to heal emotionally, tap into their intuition and heal their addictions also invariably end up on the ''spiritual path'' for the want of a better phrase.

Over the years as my interest in Eastern philosophy / spirituality increased, I realised there are some Western, genuine ''gurus'' doing much the same as their Indian Mystic counterparts. In their meetings there was a lot of silence and very little talking. What words were uttered were of the utmost importance and significance but most of all the energy transfer was the Light and delight of the time spent in their presence. My own experience has been with the Canadian philosopher John de Ruiter. But I digress, the point I wish to make here is the unmistakable link between emotions and spirituality. When we no longer suppress our emotions, and instead tune into them, feel them and ultimately integrate them, what we get is healing. We become more aware of ourself, our own sense of self. We start to ask questions and live a deeper, more authentic life that really cannot help but be spiritual.

What is ''spiritual'' anyway, but a heightened awareness of life and the many dimensions of it. The life force in every plant, animal and creature. The hidden wonder becomes apparent. We cannot help but love. We cannot help but forgive. We cannot help but be authentic, have our say and operate from a deep sense of integrity. This is why I often say - ''This method of weight loss is not just about losing a few pounds. It is about what is going on in your heart, mind, emotions and life.''

My own process into freedom from compulsive eating involved the feeling of my feelings as opposed to the suppression of my feelings through compulsive eating. And that is what I teach today - How to feel, integrate and process your emotions so you no longer eat when full because of them. Uncomfortable issues and your habit of running away from them by eating when full is what we deal with in our sessions via fb video, Zoom or Skype. It is an interesting journey, and yes, many say it is a spiritual journey for it encompassed the mind, body, emotions and spirit. All of you is taken into the equation of life and how to live it to the max.
